Hardwood, tile, and vinyl flooring are all great options for people with allergies as they do not trap dust and other allergens like carpet can.
Hardwood flooring is made from a single piece of wood, while engineered hardwood is made from layers of wood bonded together. Engineered hardwood is more resistant to moisture and can be a better option for areas like basements.

This is a common question that doesn't always have a very easy straight answer. There's a lot of variables to consider when pricing a flooring project
Material Cost and Labor
Hardwood, Laminate Vinyl, Carpet, Tile. There's different quality levels and labor pricing points for each type of flooring.
Size of the flooring project
A client with 1500sf to install is going to get a lower overall price per sf than someone that has 200sf to install. That doesn't mean we don't want the small jobs, but that we discount larger projects.
Demo of Existing Floors
Different demo rates for carpet, laminate, vinyl, hardwood and tile. Often we are going into a home and doing demo on 3 different types of flooring. They each have their own demo cost.
Baseboard
Are you wanting to replace with new baseboard, remove/reset existing, or put down shoe mold.
Transitions
Total linear feet needed for tmolds/reducers from your new flooring to where it lines up to flooring your keeping.
Moisture Barrier
Does the flooring you select have a manufacture requirement/recommendation for a moisture barrier to retain warranty.
Delivery/Disposal
There's a cost to get the flooring to the jobsite and dispose of demoed floors. It's cheaper to deliver/dump 1000sf of carpet (1/2lb per sf) vs 1000sf of tile (6lb per sf).
Bathrooms
Will we be removing/resetting toilets and vanities?
Stairs
Installing steps, landings, and curved steps have their own pricing per step. Cost depends on type of flooring, application method, width of step, additional fabrication needed, etc...
Additional Fabrication
Undercutting fireplaces, installing sunken living rooms, cutting doors/frames, raising thresholds, etc.... Some homes don't need any of this done while others require all of the above.
Floor Leveling
After demo; how thick will we have to spread leveler and in how many areas. A newly built house doesn't mean the slab is ready to lay hard surface flooring without leveling. Failing to level the subfloor will give the new floor a cheap feel and hollow sound no matter the quality of the floor in conjunction with voiding manufacture warranty.
These are just some of the main pricing factors when customizing an estimate for your specific project. A few other things we consider are furniture moving, pre-demo prep work (plastic on cabinets, blinds, furniture) project deadlines and so on.
All that is a lot to absorb, but that's nothing to worry about. After all, we do provide FREE job pricing immediately after measuring.
